(Bus / Project) Development Associate (Solar Industry)
I am currently looking for a Development Associate for a client of mine who is a vertically integrated global manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) panels with manufacturing facilities in Europe and North America. Their decade of experience manufacturing modules underscores their commitment to delivering high quality product to the market and growing their customer base through loyalty and commitment.
The ideal candidate is someone with a few years experience in Project Sourcing/Project Analysis (in the solar industry) along with strong people skills; someone willing to learn and grow with the position and organization.
Position: (Business/Project) Development Associate (Solar Market)
Location: Carlsbad, CA
Reports to: Manager, Project Development & Structured Finance
Compensation: 65K – 75K Base, 15% Bonus Potential
My client is looking to hire a Development Associate to join their Project Development and M&A Team in Carlsbad, California. They are looking to hire the candidate with the right mix of business development experience, financial modeling skills and a growth-oriented attitude for this position.
The Development Associate will work with senior management and investors directly to perform risk analysis and due diligence of commercial and utility-scale solar projects and will provide ongoing analysis of U.S. States solar markets. This position requires at least 2 years experience as a business development associate or analyst with a renewable energy company, utility or investment group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Project Development:
- Screen and contact developers and other parties to identify potential acquisition targets.
- Manage the due diligence process related to M&A transactions including the evaluation of legal, environmental and interconnection related documents and studies.
- Engage with outside parties including technical, legal and tax advisors
- Perform risk analysis related to Greenfield development and project acquisitions and prepare executive-level recommendations memos
- Work across departments including Sales, Engineering and Operations
Financial Analysis:
- Perform extensive financial modeling of structured finance transactions including partnership flips, etc.
- Maintain and update financial model with relevant market metrics
Market Analysis duties:
- Analyze solar markets across the U.S. States
- Create and maintain market observatory with latest updates regarding state and local policy affecting solar PV, incentive program and utility activity
- Perform IRR analysis for different incentive programs to identify most attractive targets
Qualifications:
The position requires a mix of quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, superior communication abilities as well as a strong aptitude for engaging and nurturing relationships.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Mastery of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Effective at creating, summarizing, and presenting information logically for execution decision making
- Prior project development expertise in the power industry desired but not required
- Advanced web research skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Entrepreneurial, self starter with a burning desire to learn and win
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing time demands
- Fluency with other software such as SalesForce, Google Earth desired but not required
- Bilingual English/Spanish desired but not required
Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree required preferably in finance, economics or business administration and 2+ years of analyst experience within the renewable energy industry or boutique investment group.
