Charles Schwab Strategy is an internal strategy group responsible for delivering world-class strategy and competitive analysis. The team helps senior leaders around the firm with the most critical challenges facing their businesses, lifting the horizon beyond the immediate term toward trends and opportunities outside of “day to day” operations.
The goals of the group are to:
• Deliver thoughtful, actionable insight to business leaders at the corporate and business-unit level
• Conduct clear, meaningful, data-driven analysis to inform key business decisions
• Allocate the firm’s resources towards the highest-priority strategic issues

Brief Description of Role:
Strategy MBA Interns will work within Schwab’s Corporate Strategy team on a high-level, impactful strategic project. Typical projects include (but are not limited to): market entry, competitive analysis, post-merger integration, growth strategy, product, and pricing strategy and client segmentation work.
Most projects are undertaken in close conjunction with our business partners across Schwab, and will require strong partnership within cross-functional teams. In addition, the internship will provide exposure to senior management and opportunities to learn about Schwab’s overall business outside of the assigned projects.
The internship is a paid position lasting approximately 10 weeks. The intern will complete work on a project as a member of the Strategy team during this period. At the end of the internship, Schwab will generally make a decision as to whether or not to extend the intern a permanent offer as a Senior Manager.

Candidates who are invited to interview will participate in experience and case interviews. We use case studies to assess your problem-solving skills and they can also give you insight to the type of work we perform. Cases are broad, two-way discussions that demonstrate your ability to creatively approach complex or ambiguous problems, structure your thinking, and reach sensible conclusions in a short time based on the available facts. Because case interviews present problems for which there are no predetermined answers, you will be evaluated more on how approach the problem than on the specific answers you come up with.
Technical/Functional Qualifications:
An ideal candidate is an MBA student whose interests include strategy and/or consulting, with a combination of:
• Work experience in strategy for a top-tier consulting firm or strategy group within financial services; previous work experience in the financial services industry is preferred, but not required
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Strong teamwork skills with demonstrated success in working with cross-functional teams
